Tribute to Jon Hodge

Others are able to speak in a more informed manner about Jon Hodge's scholarly achievements. I would simply like to record the fact that I consider myself very fortunate to have known Jon while I was a postgraduate in HPS at Leeds (1977-84). I benefited greatly from his historiographical iconoclasm, his willingness to share his knowledge of obscure archival sources and his sage advice regarding the direction that my research should take. I have also forgiven him for taking a dim view of my enthusiasm for the recordings of Glenn Gould, which Jon thought was solely due to my being a Canadian.
