Tribute to Jon Hodge
I owe my first, and only, academic job to Jon's decision to leave the new Institute in Toronto, so we were colleagues at great distance in the days before the internet, but his thick and profound articles about the development of Darwin's ideas were important parts of my education in the history of biology. When I began to write on Darwin myself a few years ago, his responses to my emails were swift and encouraging. Where some academics would defend their own turf, Jon welcomed discussion. His impact on our field is permanent.
